Katie Reviews our June Book Club choice~ John Stonehouse, My father: The True story of the runaway MP

A nonfiction book that reads like a work of crime fiction. This book has it all, from a plot to fake a death to spies from the communist Czechoslovak secret service, this book has you questioning what more could happen next.

We follow the events that lead up to Labour MP John Stonehouse faking his death in 1974 and the events that followed soon after. Written by Stonehouse’s daughter Julia, who has meticulously researched the events and accessed previously classified documents her aim is to tell the whole story and disputed allegations that are still present in the press today. As this book is written by the daughter of a man who faked his death, the chapters covering the fake death plot and then finding out he's alive truly shows the depth of the emotions caused to the family and the writer. However, it's written in such a way that you're presented with the facts and the emotions come second.

This book makes you question if these events happened today would it still lead to a man faking his death to escape. This is a book that has stayed with me since i finished reading it and one i can't wait to recommend.
