My oh my has summer flown by! We have really enjoyed hand-picking books that we think will be perfect books for children to start the new school year with. Below you will find a selection of my personal favourites:

My first recommendation is based on a classic character children around the world know and love: Peter Rabbit Tales Starting School by Beatrix Potter.

It is beautifully illustrated and a brilliant board book for children starting school or nursery as Peter prepares for his very first day of forest school with Benjamin Bunny without his sisters. With Mrs Rabbit’s loving touch Peter is able to enjoy the new chapter.

My second recommendation is Let’s Get Ready for School by Jane Porter, and illustrated by Carolina Rabel.

This book includes a heart-warming guide for children who may be nervous about starting school. The young reader joins six other characters on their journey to school. The illustrations and text prompts the children to think about ways in which they too can prepare and is a perfect conversation starter between parent and child. It is a thoroughly well-written and promotes well-being.

My third recommendation is Ready, Steady, School! By Marianne Dubuc.

This fabulous picture book is set to put a smile on the young readers’ face as not only do you get to transport yourself onto Pom’s journey to animal schools but it also includes a challenge to spot the characters in this book!! The illustrations are so detailed and endearing.

My final recommendation is the new series of Ladybird Books surrounding the subject matter science. The Human Body for example is a fantastic pocket-sized book that educates the reader by unveiling the framework of how our bodies work with clear and bold illustrations. The series also includes: Electricity, The Solar System, Trains, and Weather.
