Andy’s Bookshelf

Hello, I'm Andy and I am the Reading Room host upstairs at Books on the Hill. I am a Canadian who moved to the UK in August of 2024 and have been lucky enough to be working in this readers paradise since May of 2025! It has always been my ambition to be a writer, so having a job where I am lucky enough to be surrounded by books all day everyday is an absolute dream. I love getting the chance to chat to people about their favorite stories and am always ready to share my own.  

I studied Creative Writing and Cinema at university back in Canada where my devotion to writing grew with each lesson. During my six years of study, I had so many doors opened to different styles of literature. I spent quite a lot of time invested in screen and stage plays, as well as contemporary poetry. My favourite genre however has always been fantasy, a great love of mine that started when I was eight years old and read the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe for the first time. 

Below you can find a selection of books that have stuck with me and live on my bookshelf - both in the UK and in Canada. Hopefully you will see something that resonates with you or spikes your own curiosity. If you have any questions about my selections or just want to talk about books, I am up in the reading room Thursday's - Sunday's and am always eager for a chat!
